What this procedure involves
A beard transplant uses Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) to move hair follicles, usually from the back or sides of the scalp, into areas of the beard with patchy, thin or absent growth. Dr Jassim Daood performs beard transplantation at the Bankstown clinic in Sydney, planning graft placement around the natural direction of beard growth in each area of the face.
Recovery
The treated areas of the face may be red, swollen or crusted for the first days, and shaving is paused while the grafts settle. Transplanted hairs commonly shed in the first weeks, with regrowth developing gradually over the following months.

A beard transplant may be considered by men with patchy or absent beard growth, thin coverage in the moustache or goatee area, or gaps caused by scarring. Suitability depends on the quality of your donor hair, the cause of the missing growth and your general health.
Because scalp hair differs slightly in texture from beard hair, how well the donor hair will blend is assessed individually at your consultation. Not everyone is a suitable candidate.
Dr Daood uses the same Follicular Unit Extraction technique as a scalp transplant: individual follicular units are taken from the back or sides of the scalp and placed into the beard area under local anaesthetic as a day procedure.
Beard work is fine-detail work. Grafts are placed at a low angle, one at a time, following the direction your beard naturally grows in each zone (cheeks, jawline, moustache, chin). The number of grafts depends on the area being filled and is discussed after your face is examined.
The face may be red, swollen or crusted for the first days, and shaving needs to wait until the grafts have settled. Specific aftercare instructions are provided, including how to wash and when normal grooming can resume.
Transplanted beard hairs commonly shed in the first weeks and regrow gradually over the following months. Once established, they can generally be trimmed and shaved like the rest of your beard.
